March 7, 2019

This year’s Adaptive Sports USA Jr Nationals will be held in Eden Prairie, Minnesota and Paul’s Pals is excited to announce that we are partnering with Adaptive Sports USA to host the event! From July 14-19, 2019, individuals up to age 22 with physical disabilities and/or visual impairments compete in the week-long national sport championship. There are also some events that are open to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Many athletes that compete at this competition go on to competing internationally at the Paralympic Games. Examples of the sports athletes may participate in include (but are not limited to) archery, paratriathlon, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis and track and field. There will also be many educational and social opportunities available to athletes, parents, coaches, and officials throughout the week.

Since 1984, the Adaptive Sports USA Jr Nationals have been hosted in many different cities, including Rochester, MN in 2013. We are so excited to host this celebration of young athletes in our community and continue promoting inclusion!

Adaptive Sports USA was founded in 1956 as the National Wheelchair Athletic Association (NWAA). The initial impetus to organize grew out of the interests of athletes with disabilities, many who were veterans of World War II. It has now progressed to serving as a comprehensive competitive sports organization for all individuals with physical disabilities, and an organizational name change to Adaptive Sports USA.

The organization’s mission is to engage, evolve, and empower individuals with a disability to be involved in adaptive sport through education, coaching and advocacy. By creating a community outreach program,we increase opportunities for individuals with a disability and are a gateway to regional, national and international multi-sport competitions.
